MIGRATION · TRADES · AUGUST 2026

Invisible on Google Maps for a year

New Leaf Carpentry had a Google Business Profile suspended for twelve months over a policy violation, and a Wix site where you couldn't read the phone number on a phone. Two separate problems, both quietly costing them work.

Where they started

Two problems, not one

The Business Profile had been suspended for a year over a policy violation — so for local searches, on the map, in the “near me” results, New Leaf simply didn't exist. Meanwhile the Wix site had thin service pages, a dated design, and contact details that rendered unreadably at some screen sizes.

What made it tricky

A year of rankings to protect

The old site wasn't performing, but it was ranking — over a thousand impressions a month for terms like “carpenter blue mountains”. A migration that dropped those would have made things worse. And a suspended profile can't just be re-submitted; the underlying violation has to be resolved first.

WHAT WAS COMPLETED

Fix the profile first, then the website

The order mattered. A reinstated profile starts working immediately. A new website takes weeks to be crawled, indexed and trusted. So the profile came first.

01

Google Business Profile

  • Identified and resolved the policy violation behind the twelve-month suspension
  • Took the profile through reinstatement and got it live again
  • Reworked the profile details — categories, service areas, description and contact information
02

Website migration

  • Wix to Squarespace in six weeks, restructured around real service lines
  • Every old URL redirect-mapped before launch, so a year of search history survived
  • Project pages, SEO foundations and tracking — and contact details you can read on a phone

WHAT CHANGED

From nothing, to something measurable

12 months The profile had been suspended before reinstatement — invisible in local search that entire time
40 Website clicks straight from the Business Profile in the three months after it came back. Before that: zero
5 Phone calls made directly from the profile, three of them in August alone

Profile activity climbed every month after reinstatement — 6 website clicks in June, 14 in July, 20 in August. Calls followed the same curve. None of it existed while the profile was down.

The new website went live in August. Its first month produced 790 search impressions, the highest of the past twelve, and the strongest average position since spring.

A suspended profile doesn't tell you it's costing you work. It just quietly does.

No error message, no notification to the customer. You simply stop appearing on the map, and the calls that would have come never arrive. Twelve months of that is a lot of jobs.

What this involved

A note on this site. New Leaf can edit their own website — that's rather the point. Some copy, imagery and layout may have changed since I finished the work. What's described here is what I built and why.

Is your Business Profile actually working?

Most aren't, and a suspended or half-finished profile is invisible rather than obviously broken. The free website and SEO audit covers your Google Business Profile as well as your site.
